Included:

  • 1 6 oz. bag each Black Hawaiian-Style, Himalayan Pink and White Sea Salt.

Salt is necessary for the lacto-fermentation of vegetables; however, not all salts are suitable for fermentation.

Sea salt is produced from the evaporation of seawater rather than by being extracted from sedimentary deposits. This type of salt is ideal for vegetable ferments as it is one of the purest forms of salt and does not have added iodine or anti-caking agents, which can be detrimental to fermentation cultures. Since less processing is required for this type of salt, sea salt has more healthful minerals than traditional table salt.

Himalayan Pink salt is rock salt (halite) mined from the Punjab region of Pakistan. The salt, which has a pinkish tint due to trace minerals, is primarily used as a food additive to replace refined table salt but is also used for cooking, food preservation and presentation, decorative lamps and spa treatments.

Black Hawaiian-Style Salt is comprised of small, delicate crystals of Hawaiian natural sea salt that’s bonded with activated coconut shell charcoal, for a bright burst of salty flavor balanced by smoky charcoal. This salt is lower in sodium than standard table salt. It is composed of 81% sodium chloride; the remaining 19% of the salt’s chemical composition comes from a combination of 84 trace minerals and electrolytes that naturally occur in sea water and remain on the salt crystals after evaporation.


Does not include metal screw band.

Airlock Instructions:

Place the bowl-shaped part of the airlock on your wide-mouth quart or gallon mason jar. Then, place the cone-shaped part with the cone down on top of bowl. Place and tighten a canning jar screw top ring over the airlock (wide mouth).

Fill your airlock with 1 tablespoon of water to protect your fermentation project. Monitor the liquid level and add liquid as necessary, being careful not to overfill.
